Rail Shuttle Transfer Trolley
A rail shuttle transfer trolley (also known as a rail transfer cart or RGV) is a motorized vehicle designed to transport heavy loads along fixed steel rails in industrial environments .
A rail shuttle transfer trolley is an automated transport cart that runs on fixed rails, suitable for long-distance and high-precision transportation tasks. It typically consists of a control system, a driving unit, and a loading platform. It can automatically transport goods back and forth in material warehouses or workshops according to preset programs or instructions, enabling fast material flow.
Compared with traditional forklifts or manual handling, rail shuttle trolleys have the advantages of stable operation, high efficiency, and the ability to adapt to high-intensity, repetitive transportation tasks. For example, in large-scale storage centers for steel pipes, steel coils, raw materials, and molds, shuttle trolleys can work 24 hours a day, greatly improving logistics efficiency.
The 15-ton RGV automated rail transfer trolleys was applied to a large steel coil warehouse of our customer in Hangzhou. It moves vertically and horizontally between various racks, transferring steel coils of different specifications. The trolley can travel on dozens of crisscross rails, drive under warehouse racks, position each rack accurately, lift and remove steel coils, and transport finished steel coils to designated racks for placement. This has improved the customer's productivity by 30%.The customer has adopted three sets of RGV rail trolleys and systems, and we are discussing the introduction and implementation of additional production lines and automated transfer trolley projects for other factory workshops.



The structural design of the Rail transfer cart with Longitudinal and Lateral Movement focuses on automated operation and precision handling. Its working principle is as follows:
Command Reception
The dispatching center (such as a WMS) sends task instructions to the shuttle trolley according to order requirements, for example: "Pick up goods from Rack A and deliver them to Conveyor Line B".
Path Planning
The control system plans the optimal travel route based on real-time positioning data, avoiding other equipment in operation.
Operation Execution
The shuttle trolley travels along the rail to the target position and completes loading/unloading via its pick-and-place mechanism. If rail switching is required, its travel direction is adjusted by turnouts or turntables.
Status Feedback
Upon task completion, the rail trolley feeds back its position, cargo status and other information to the dispatching center, waiting for the next command.
