Its overall structure mainly consists of five parts: frame, walking mechanism, drive system, control system, and safety protection device.
Among them, the walking mechanism is the key to achieving longitudinal and transverse movement, usually using a "wheel set switching" design - longitudinal and transverse walking wheels are equipped under the frame at the same time, and the longitudinal wheel set corresponds to the longitudinal track laid on the ground, responsible for the vehicle moving along the length direction;
The horizontal wheel set corresponds to the horizontal track, and can be switched to contact the track surface through the lifting device when changing direction.
For example, when a vehicle needs to turn from the longitudinal track to the transverse track, the control system will first command the longitudinal wheelset to stop running, then activate the lifting mechanism to lift the frame, causing the longitudinal wheelset to detach from the track, while lowering the transverse wheelset to fit the transverse track. After completing the direction switch, the transverse drive system will drive the vehicle to move.
The core of this design lies in the precise docking of the "track intersection point". Usually, positioning devices are set up at the track intersection position to ensure that the vehicle will not deviate from the track during wheel group switching and ensure operational safety.


In the automobile manufacturing workshop, it is used for the transportation of heavy components such as chassis and body. Traditional transportation methods rely on overhead cranes or AGV carts for multiple transfers, while longitudinal and transverse moving rail cars can directly move along preset tracks from the parts warehouse to the production line, and then switch horizontally to specific workstations, achieving "one-stop" transportation. This not only reduces the transportation process, but also reduces the risk of component collision and damage.
In the field of warehousing and logistics, the coordination between vertical and horizontal mobile rail cars and three-dimensional warehouses is particularly close. It can freely move on the vertical and horizontal tracks on the warehouse floor, transfer goods vertically from the warehouse entrance to the corresponding shelf area, and then move horizontally to the bottom of the shelf, and cooperate with stacker cranes to complete the storage and retrieval of goods.
